These are the kind of "vampires" students were willing to give their blood to.
Last week the Rutgers Chapter of the Red Cross and the Biological Society sponsored a Vampire Day's Blood Drive. The blood drive, which took place on Oct. 31, played on Halloween with haunted house decorations and staffers in costumes.
According to Jen Perozzi, president of R-N Red Cross, "about 30 Red Cross and Biological Society volunteers staffed the various locations throughout the day".
According to Perozzi, 76 pints of blood were collected.
All donated money and blood "goes to hospitals in the Newark area and surrounding regions, wherever there is the need," Perozzi said.
Perozzi, a senior double-major in ancient and medieval civilizations and marketing, said that organizing for the event started in August.
The month of October "was extremely busy with Blood Drive planning."
Red Cross plans to do CPR training on Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Golden Dome. The cost is $5 and includes luncheon. Those interested can signup in the accounting office on the third floor of the campus center.
Officers of the Red Cross are Jen Perozzi, president; Richard Ram, vice president; Melissa Chung, treasurer; Vishaka Vijaymar, corresponding secretary; and Nidhi Khanna, recording secretary.
