Coach Kevin Morris and his Scarlet Raider women's basketball team are dedicated to beginning another season and becoming NJAC play-off contenders.
Morris has upperclassmen who have matured into dangerous players, as well as an arsenal of young, talented hoopsters.
This year's team is led by the likes of Christyal Anderson, the lone senior who has improved over four years to earn recognition from the conference, and Trina Whitehead, another explosive player who has the ability to perform well in big games.
Anderson and Whitehead form an added measure of security for Morris, who believes that no captains should be named, but rather, that leaders will develop throughout the season and captains will take over.
Who's likely to emerge in this role?
The answer can be found in the actions of leadership ; at practice and in the locker room.
The young players are practicing hard and getting better day by day, while strong post-help has come from two returning sophomores, Kristina Petrillo and Stephanie Ross.
Perimeter players, such as Nerlande Nicolas, Toni Roselli, and Sabrina Sanchez, show that this team has depth.
The Scarlet Raiders face a challenging schedule again this season, with competition in the NJAC making every game important.
During the off-season, they spent considerable time in the weight room. They will try to build on their stingy defense and mount a well-balanced offense.
"What made us most successful was that we were able to defend," Morris said. "We mostly have everybody back from that team, so if we work hard we should be able to defend effectively."
The team can expect to enjoy a professional atmosphere in the Golden Dome with fans on both sides of the court.
Every home game will be a good game to watch.
"This is a school that wants to win. I think that we want to make a statement that we are a school that can combine great academics with great athletics," Morris added.
"I think we are on the path to doing that."
