When most students think of graduation, the month of May comes to mind. But in fact, "graduation" takes place three times during the year.

October graduation is for seniors who have completed their degree requirements by the end of the summer term.

January graduation is for those who will be completing by the end of the fall term.

The May graduation is for students completing the requirements by the end of the spring term.

Graduation requirements can be completed at these different times but there is only one commencement ceremony, and that is in May.

All graduates can participate in the ceremony no matter at which point in the year they completed their requirements.

However, simply completing all your classes does not mean that you will automatically be considered for graduation.

There are steps students must take prior to the anticipated graduation date.

First, students have to submit a Diploma Information Form available through the Student Affairs Web site.

The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs will certify a candidate's general education requirements, but the major requirements have to be certified by the department of the major.

Students must also attend a graduation workshop which is designed to prepare everyone for graduation. There are several workshops held throughout the year.

Once these two important steps are taken care of, all students have to do is make sure their grades remain up to par. A case of senioritis could end up delaying graduation!
