(Jan. 14,) - Junior forward Jermont Horton poured in a season-high 30 points and Rutgers-Newark shot 55.6 percent from the floor to stop The College of New Jersey, 71-48, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference men's basketball game in The Golden Dome.
Horton had a dozen points and senior guard Justin Carter chipped in nine of his 17 points in the first half when the Scarlet Raiders constructed a 32-16 lead.
Senior forward Scott Findlay notched nine of his team-high 11 points in the second half for the Lions (10-5, NJAC 4-4), but TCNJ never got as close as the halftime deficit in the final 20 minutes.
The Raiders (10-4, NJAC 4-4) snapped a two-game conference losing streak while playing for the fourth consecutive start without senior center Chinedu Ibeh who is recovering from a hand injury. Rutgers-Newark still held a 29-21 edge on the boards as Horton and reserve junior forward Rico Thompson pitched in with six rebounds apiece. Carter also had four assists and a steal.
Junior forward Matt Diamond came off the bench for nine points for TCNJ and sophomore forward Mark Aziz added seven.
