MONTCLAIR, N.J. (Jan. 28) The men's basketball faced Montclair Saturday and pulled off a 71-59 victory, despite a shaky start.
Even without MSU's best Gian Paul Gonzalez in the game, the Raiders struggled in the first half, shooting just 33% of field goals and trailing Montclair 34-23 at halftime. "We came out sluggish and were too passive. We passed the ball too much and didn't shoot enough," comments guard Angel Collado. In the second half, the Raiders aggressively improved to 70% FG shooting and outstaged Montclair in every category but turnovers. Justin Carter, ranked
2nd in assists in the NJAC, executed six assists, 17 points, five rebounds, and four steals. The league's third-best scorer, Jermont Horton posted 27 points
and snatched nineboards. Stephen Taylor and Phil Slater each notched 6 points and Slater
included five assists. The victory improved R-N's record to 8-4, their win streak to six games,
and placed them in a tie for first with Ramapo. The Raiders host 2nd-place William Paterson at the Dome this Wednesday, tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
