(Feb. 1) - The Golden Dome was packed with over 400 fans who came out to witness a fierce, fast-paced matchup between Rutgers-Newark and William Paterson - both tied for 1st in the NJAC.
The decisive moment came with .03 seconds left in the game, when Paterson's Luis Martinez completed a lay-up that boosted the Pioneers over the Raiders 52-50.
The Scarlet Raiders got off to a rocky start, falling 3-17 in the first ten minutes of play. R-N trailed Paterson for the majority of the game and shortly after R-N pulled ahead, Paterson dominated with a 10-2 run in the remaining two minutes.
At the same time, R-N missed golden scoring opportunities with free throws and allowed two critical turnovers in the final few minutes. In the end, Jermont Horton topped team scoring with 15 points while Justin Carter and Chadd Barnes each had seven. Barnes led in rebounds, with five while Stephen Taylor grabbed four.
After missing seven games due to a hand infection, powerhouse center Chinedu Ibeh marked his return with eight points and two rebounds. "I was excited to come back," says Ibeh. "This loss was a learning experience. We can't dwell, we all made mistakes, no one person is accountable."
