The art students of Rutgers-Newark now have one more reason to stay cooped up in Bradley Hall: the brand new Bradley Hall Café.
The new shop, located directly outside the Rutgers University Bookstore in Bradley Hall, sells snacks, beverages and coffee.
Provost Steven Diner and Dean Darryl B. Holloman kicked off the official grand opening of the café on Feb. 9 with samples of Starbucks coffee and coupons for free beverages.
Operated by the campus food service provider, Aramark, the café is intended to expand the dining options for R-N students and is touted as the "Bradley Hall version" of the Campus Center Raider-Mart.
"We want this to be a living breathing community," and the Bradley Hall Café will help contribute to that goal, Holloman said.
But some students may wonder why officials opened a snack shop right outside the bookstore, which has its own assortment of coffee and snacks.
In the eyes of Diner, Bradley Hall is the "perfect space for a café."
Students also agree. They think that the Café is useful as another option for between class munchies.
A benefit over the bookstore is that students who don't have cash can use their Rutgers Flex Dollars at the Café, which is not a payment alternative at the Rutgers Bookstore.
The Café also boasts a large variety of deli sandwiches, salads, ice cream and Starbucks coffee.
The cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.
