Scoring Jobs at 'Big East' Fair

Madison Square Garden hosted The Big East Career Fair for colleges within the Big East conference on March 10.  It offered opportunities for full-time and part-time jobs as well as internships for all students and alumni.   

Thomas Hopkins, director of Career Development Services of R-N, said that there was an initial meeting two years ago about having a Big East fair.  It evolved from an Internet-based and gradually developed into a live fair. 

Rutgers University, Georgetown University, Seton Hall University, Syracuse University, Villanova, University of Notre Dame, and DePaul University were among the many Big East schools that hosted the fair. 

Eighty-four employers participated in the fair.  Employers from financial, insurance, technical, pharmaceutical, and engineering-related industries were present.  Major companies included Google, Bloomberg and Infosys Technologies.

Tom Manshreck, a technical writer in software engineering for Google, said that despite the sluggish economy, Google is still growing in software engineering. 

According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is expecting to be a $1 billion company in the next few quarters. 

MSG representatives said that they are constantly looking for interns in marketing for the Knicks, Rangers and Madison Square Garden.  This summer season they were looking for seasonal sales representatives.   

The U.S Department of State and was also seeking special agents and security engineering officers.
