Editors of the New Brunswick-based "Newark" Targum said they did not intend to merely take the "Daily" out of their newspaper's nameplate and replace it with "Newark."
But that's exactly what the "Newark" Targum's editorial did in the last issue.
The March 8 editorial, which is presumably written by their editorial board, claimed that the Rutgers University funding to the three campuses - which is based directly on the university population's breakdown ratio of 70-20-10 (New Brunswick/Piscataway, Newark and Camden, respectively) - is unfair to Newark.
This is a great position to take, except one must wonder how sincere it can be when just a few weeks earlier the New Brunswick Daily Targum proclaimed how the population-based funding indeed was fair!
While that other paper flip-flops between opinions from campus to campus, it has always been the position of this newspaper that funding to R-N is grossly shortchanged.
RU pays more attention to its Scarlet Knights and to landscaping on its main campus than it does to R-N academics and transportation needs.
New Brunswick's satellite publication thought it could custom tailor an editorial to give itself some Newark cred, but it instead exposed them as the poseurs they are.
