In the Newark College of Arts and Sciences Student Governing Association election last week, incumbents returned to new positions, new faces joined the association and several seats were left unfilled.
Luis Martinez, currently a freshman, was elected to the position of NCAS-SGA president for the 2006-2007 year.
Martinez, the only candidate for the top spot, won with 97 votes and 17 abstentions.
Despite his inexperience, Martinez will do fine with help from the rest of the SGA, said outgoing president Andrew Vigario.
"I think Luis really doesn't have that much leadership experience but I'm going to be working with him over the summer, so we'll see how that goes," Vigario said.
Anas Idelbi was elected the legislative vice president with 114 votes and 39 abstentions.
Issa Abbasi was re-elected as director of budget with 132 votes and 24 abstentions.
Karim Nicola won the secretary spot with 110 votes and 43 abstentions.
The new senators-at-large are Eliana Munoz, who received 43 votes, Viktor Semenyuk with 30 and former SGA spokesman Luke Sangiamo with 28. One spot was vacant and will be filled in the fall.
The senior senators are former Junior Sen. Bhumi Dave, who received 13 votes, and Sneha Pendse, with 10. The SGA will appoint the two remaining spots.
The junior senators are Kristina C. Lopez with 12 votes, Diana Megalla with nine and Grant Van Eck with six. There was one vacancy.
The sophomore senators are Audrey Perozzi with 14 votes, Ida Ively Torres with 11, Mudduser Malik with six and one other spot is left open.
The university senator position will be appointed in the fall.
