Before the tennis team took on Caldwell College, No. 1 ranked player Anthony Circillo was nowhere in sight. Some guys got the memo. Others didn't, including head coach Marvyn Hall.

"One of the kids told me and I said, 'Are you kidding me?'"

The team was already down a man after Ryan Chadha spent time in the hospital for an inflamed gall bladder. In his psychology class, Jay Shah was instructed to get his feelings out through a de-stressing drill, and took the time to vent about Ciricillo's backing out. "I hate him! He let us down! I can't believe he did it!"

"It shows a lack of character," exasperated teammate David Estrada explained. "No, it's just gutless," interjected No. 2 ranked Chang Cho. "It put everyone in a bind."

Coming off of a 6-0, 6-1 spanking from Stevens, Ciricillo claims to be "unhappy" despite having just one week of play left with three matches. "He really bailed on us," Cirio de Jesus said. "Everyone now plays two spots up. He just up and left."

Ciricillo states in an email to the team that he "couldn't handle another week" because he criticized himself too heavily and placed too much attention on tennis, and that he wanted to "get back to my studies" but that "next year is our season."

After Western Connecticut walked away with the win 4-3, Hall just sighed and shook his head. "I still get a pay check. It's the other guys that are hurt more than me."
