It's not always about the highest scorer or the one with the most rebounds. Sometimes it's the one with the hustle, and an all-around strong player.

For this week's Observer Player of the Week, we've chosen David Cherry by a vote of 9-2, due to his work ethic and morale he brings to the team. After making waves as a rookie, he hit the gym over the summer, bulking up and fine-tuning his game. He's averaging 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds a game, second on the team.

He is known for his fourth quarter heroics, forcing fouls and making his free throws. With 4:01 on the clock in a nail-biter with the NJAC's New Jersey City, Cherry sank both free throws; he Raiders went on to win 77-72. For his career-high 18 points and seven rebounds, he scores the Player of the Week title and until another teammate unseats him, he can boast for a week…but you won't find him boasting.

When asked who had the biggest ego on the team, he refused to answer, but was quick to throw out several names for who was the most funny. "Everyone's a clown, but Chadd (Barnes) and Quran (Wimberley) are hilarious. They always have a comeback. Everyone's flying high right now, and there's lots of energy since we're 6-0. We can't look past any team. With NJAC teams, there's a lot to gain and a lot to lose."

Cherry, otherwise known as D.C., stated that one of the hardest things in his life was making a decision where to go, but finds R-N to be a comfortable fit. "The team chemistry is perfect. Everyone enjoys everyone's company, and no one really puts themselves ahead of anyone. We party together. When we go out, we go together and leave together. Loughran is always looking out for us. He tries his hardest to get us where we need to be, whether it's help with financial aid, work study, or tutoring. He doesn't care only about basketball, but about our academics. I think he genuinely cares. The same with our assistant coaches. They're the coolest. They're really there for you, and not concerned only about basketball."
