Next year, the Newark Housing Authority will start to tear down the Baxter Terrace housing project.
The project, which was opened in 1941, was one of the first projects opened in Newark that provided safe, available housing for the poor.
The decision to raze the project was made after a physical assessment of the property estimated that it would take a year and a half and $67 million to repair the dilapidated structure.
Baxter Terrace has deteriorated over the years into a dangerous property with four murders there since 2005.
