Rutgers-Newark limited John Jay to just five points in the opening half on its way to an historic 63-14 non-conference women's basketball victory in The Golden Dome.

Reserve forward Renee Edwards hit on six of her seven shots from the floor for a game-high 14 points and added five rebounds, two assists and two steals as no Scarlet Raider played more than 25 minutes. Senior center Stephanie Ross tallied 13 points, five rebounds and three steals for Rutgers-Newark.

Junior forward Parker Griffin paced the Bloodhounds with seven points while junior forward Tina Ogunleye pulled down a game-high ten rebounds to go along with three steals.

Senior forward Sabrina Sanchez, who finished with seven points, netted the Raiders' first five points during a 10-0 spurt to start the contest.

She completed a fastbreak off a steal by senior forward Toni Roselli for the game's first points before burying a 3-point jumper with a 1:53 gone.

Another steal by Roselli set up a fastbreak layup by senior guard Nerlande Nicolas before Roselli herself capped the run with a trey just 3:08 into the game.

A Griffin jumper put John Jay on the board 20 seconds later before the Raiders reeled off the next 17 points to make it 27-2.

Edwards came off the bench for six points to highlight the run which was capped by Roselli and Nicolas who drained back-to-back 3-pointers.

Roselli hit three of five 3-point attempts to post nine points and added three steals and three assists while Nicolas chipped in five points, four steals and three assists. Junior guard Erika Jordan scored a career-high seven points and added two assists and a steal as all but one of 10 players used by Rutgers-Newark head coach Kevin Morris scored.

The Scarlet Raiders (5-1) entered the game allowing just 43.8 points per game and improved dramatically on that average against the Bloodhounds (1-6).

It marked the fourth time in six games that Rutgers-Newark has held an opponent to 35 points or less.

It bettered the school record for fewest points allowed by five, topping the 100-19 decision against York early in the 1996-97 season.

Ironically, the five points were not a season low for a half by an opponent. The Raiders limited CCNY to four second-half points in a 63-30 win on Nov. 20.
