In a fast-paced, crisp played game by Rutgers-Newark, they were able to crush Rutgers-Camden to notch their fifteenth win and their fifth win in a row. Senior guard Sabrina Sanchez played an outstanding game, obtaining a season high 27 points (tied with career high), five rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
"It was a fast game. A very guard oriented game" said head coach Kevin Morris.
Rutgers-Camden seemed like they would pull out with a win in the first period, taking a 17-13 lead, however Sabrina Sanchez scored 6 points helping Rutgers Newark go on a 14-6 scoring spree when the first half was finished making it 27-23.
Other outstanding performances were made by senior guard Nerlande Nicolas who had 10 points, four assists, and two steals. Also from players Eni Fageyinbo, and Youngor Kehleay who each scored nine points. The R-N defense also made a huge difference forcing 23 turnovers, which were all converted into points.
The win gave R-N a chance to rise to first place, above William Paterson University; however, a win from William Paterson kept the standings the same.
R-N will face William Paterson next week, which will be a deciding factor for a first place ranking.
"We're four and two in the conference, fifteen and three overall, so we're happy where we are, but we've done all this before. Now what we have to do is fight to get a home game and hopefully we can do that," said head coach Morris.
It's becoming increasingly evident that R-N will play in the post-season, but the question is whether they will be able to win a home game, which will strongly influence the chances of R-N's post-season survival.
