A Rutgers-Newark employee was arrested on charges of stealing her co-workers checks and cashing them.

Police said they arrested Sharon Garrett, a 38-year old Newark resident who worked at the School of Public Administration located at Hill Hall, on Feb. 26 for taking the checks.

Garrett had access to the checks because part of her job was to hand deliver the checks to the recipients. She is charged with taking two checks and there is a third missing check that Police believe she also may have stolen.

According to Police, Garrett took the checks, forged the employees name and then cosigned them with her own name in order to cash them. According to Lt. Bradley Morgan after the employees complained about not receiving their checks, Police retrieved copies of the cashed checks and discovered Garrett's signature on them.

The two checks were valued at $2,600. Garrett was charged with two counts of forgery, two counts of theft and two counts of theft by deception.



BUSTED FROM A BIRD'S-EYE VIEW



An R-N student noticed a man trying to open her car door when she was looking out a window from her boyfriend's University Square dorm room, said police.

Police arrested James Massey, a 60-year-old Newark resident for the charge of criminal attempt: theft at 5:36 p.m. on Feb. 28. According to Lt. Morgan Massey was issued a summons and sent home.

Police said that Massey was not carrying any tools that could be used for car theft.



TOUGH TALK



Two male students were arrested by police on Feb. 28 on charges of terroristic threats.

According to police the two students were involved in a heated verbal dispute which led to them making threatening remarks to each other.

Police say a community service officer noticed the dispute and called the RUPD.

The arrest occurred at 2:38 p.m. and both students declined to press charges.
