Hi! I'm Michael Bay! Weeeeeee! Look at me, I'm Smart! He might as well have said that.

I'm referring to an event that happened in January of 2008 when Warner Brothers left Toshiba's HD DVD Hi-def optical disc technology for Sony's Blu-Ray Disc (BD).

Actually, it goes beyond that, beginning in August of 2008.

In August of 2008, just when things were looking bad for HD DVD, Paramount Pictures announced that they would be leaving BD for HD DVD.

Paramount felt, after receiving a bunch of money from Toshiba, that HD DVD had more reliable hardware (which is true).

Then came the "holier than thou" Michael Bay posting somewhere, crying like a baby: Mwaah!

If Paramount isn't going to release Transformers on the best Hi-def format in the world, then I'm not going to do Transformers 2 for them! Mwaah!

There, there, Mr. Bay. Once you pull your head out of you know where, you'll see the HD DVD difference.

And then he saw it. "I drank the Kool Aid . . . so I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!" That's right. Paramount gave him a stiff kick.

Anyway, after he massacred the first one with crappy teen appeal, maybe I don't want him to do Transformers 2. Who does he think he is anyway? Almost all his movies are forgettable, or people would like to forget they existed.

Getting back to January of 2008, Warner Brothers move to BD, also after a large sum of cash was exchanged. Here comes Michael Bay again, and this time you just can't forgive him for what he says: I TOLD YOU SO!

What!?

My blood boils just thinking about it. After that comment, there is no way I'll ever pay to see another Michael Bay film. Mr. Bay, don't quit your day job.

Are you happy BD won because it was inside the PS3? You didn't know that BD didn't win because it was "better" or the "best?" It won because it came with the PS3 as a practical freebie.

BD is one of Sony's imperialistic endeavors that they cleverly put into the PS3.

How good is BD compared to HD DVD? If you bought an early $1000 BD player, Sony says that you aren't allowed to play BD's anymore because your BD player is OLD.

It turns out that the BD player design wasn't finalized until this year. The only BD players capable of being useful from here on are the ones in the PS3. Let's also not forget how issues making a simple navigation menu on BD may delay BD's by months; six months in the case of Digital Video Essentials HD Basics.

HD DVD is better than BD. Its death didn't occur because it was inferior, it was just bad marketing.

HD DVD was much easier to use, had better response, had more features and was more reliable. Every time I use a BD navigation menu I miss the ease of HD DVD.

So maybe next time Mr. Bay decides to open his mouth, maybe he should pull his lip over his head and swallow.
